Police: Pit bull chases, bites man in alley

OHIO -- A man was chased and bitten by a pit bull Saturday evening while walking home from a store.

The 42-year-old man said he was returning from buying cigarettes when he noticed a pit bull that was loose in the backyard of an alley at 50 S. Hedges St. The man stepped back, but the dog had already spotted him, according to a Dayton police report.

The man said the dog has previously chased him, and that he started to run and was trying to climb over a fence when the dog caught up to him, biting him in the right forearm. The bite marks were minor and were treated by medics at the scene, the report stated.

The owners of the male pit bull, Renee Anderson and Charles Winkfield, provided paperwork showing their male red nose pit bull was registered and current on vaccinations. Winkfield told police he let the dog out without a leash and did not see the victim walking in the alley. He was issued a summons arrest and ordered to quarantine his dog, according to the report.

On Sept. 22, 2014, police made contact with Anderson after a pit bull off its leash had chased someone, the report stated.
