FLORIDA -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Animal Services director has determined that "Fudge," the pit bull mix responsible for attacking a 10-month-old boy Friday at a home on Pine Terrace in Sarasota, will be euthanized.
The dog was initially impounded for safety reasons Friday, but based on the Animal Services investigation, the severity of the infant's injuries and the dog's three prior bite cases, the director determined confiscating the dog and ordering humane euthanasia is the appropriate course of action.
This action is per Sarasota County Ordinance Chapter 14, Section 14-40 (b) Vicious Animals.
The owner, Angel "Lisa" Zargo, will be served the necessary paperwork Monday. Per County Ordinance, she can opt to either sign the dog over to Animal Services or she will have seven days to contest this decision. If so, a hearing will be scheduled and a magistrate will rule on this course of action.
