UNITED KINGDOM -- A BULL MASTIFF which carried out two horrific attacks on two dogs has been found and is set to be destroyed.
The tan-coloured bull mastiff, believed to be called Sasha, allegedly attacked a greyhound and a Staffordshire bull terrier in the Mainstone area over a four day period.
Police said an elderly man was walking his greyhound along a grass verge of Novorossiysk Road on Monday February 23 when his hound was accosted by a bull mastiff.
The greyhound was left with severe injuries, lost a tooth and had “a chunk taken out of his shoulder” after being bitten, said investigating officer Pc Sally Cliff.
It also suffered a wound under its leg and requires further veterinary treatment.
Three days earlier, on Friday February 20, a woman was walking with her Staffordshire bull terrier near a wooded area in Pattinson Close in Mainstone.
She said a tanned bull mastiff approached her and proceeded to attack her dog, biting it on the ear, shoulder and back.
Police said the animal was not thought to have been attached to a lead at the time.
Following an appeal in The Herald, the dog’s owner contacted both the dog warden and police.
Pc Cliff said: “She provided her details at Crownhill police station on Wednesday. We can confirm that the dog has been taken back to the rescue home it was adopted from and it is set to be put down today.
“I understand the woman had only owned the dog for a short period of time. We have contacted the owners of the two dogs which were attacked and they are pleased to know the matter has been dealt with so quickly.
“Hopefully, this will be a lesson for all dog owners. You are responsible for keeping your dog under control at all times.
“People who are unable to be in control of their dogs should consider keeping it on a lead and having it muzzled. If they’re unsure then they can get in touch with their vet, or the dog warden who are there to help.”
