NORTH CAROLINA -- The owner of two pit bulls that authorities say mauled an 8-year-old boy on Wednesday has been cited.
Onslow County Animal Control cited Ashlee Nailon with a violation of not having her animals under control, and a vaccination violation.
Sheriff Hans Miller says the boy was riding his bike Wednesday afternoon on Henderson Road outside of Verona when the attack occurred.
Deputies shot and killed one of the dogs, while they were able to capture the second dog.
The youngster remains with serious injuries at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Nailon faces fines up to $100. Authorities say it hasn't been confirmed that the two dogs had not been vaccinated, but that Nailon did not have the paperwork.
