Texas: Rebekah Holly Speer accused of stabbing, shooting dogs

TEXAS -- A Crosby woman faces two counts of felony cruelty to non-livestock animals after court documents allege that she shot and stabbed two dogs during a disturbance at a residence in July 2014.

Rebekah Holly Speer, 36, was arrested on two counts of felony cruelty to non-livestock animals Feb. 9 after probable cause documents were issued. Speer remains in the Harris County Jail on a $30,000 bond for each count.

Speer’s Defense Attorney Brian Warren stated that Speer sought immediate treatment after the incident.

“The husband and Speer have remarried and it was an isolated incident,” Warren said.

According to the court documents, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office met with the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office as they were called to the 3500 block of Deep Anchor Dr. in Crosby July 16, 2014 in regards to a report that multiple dogs had been killed inside of the residence.

“A witness on the scene identified as the ex-husband of Speer, stated he received a message from her allegedly claiming responsibility in causing the animal’s death,” the court documents allege.

The dogs were transported to the Houston SPCA for housing, evaluation and it was determined the dog reportedly had numerous wounds and musculoskeletal trauma consistent with metallic ballistics or stabbing wounds.

According to the court documents, the Houston SPCA also reported they were able to report additional wounds consistent with trauma caused by a sharp instrument; the most likely death was exsanguination (bleeding to death.)

After the investigation into the dogs’ death, police determined that Speer committed the offenses of animal cruelty and she was arrested Feb. 9.

Speer is expected to be back in front of a judge on March 18.
