INDIANA -- A Bloomington woman faces five misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty after investigators confiscated five dogs from her mobile home.
52-year-old Sherrie Denney of Bloomington was booked into the Monroe County Jail at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on February 21, police were called Denney's home after a report of possible abandoned animals at a mobile home in Southcrest Mobile Home Manor.
Investigators were told Denney still lives at the trailer, but had been to the home recently.
Monroe County deputies and animal control officers attempted to speak with Denney several times and failed to reach her in person or by phone. Many of the phone numbers police called had been disconnected.
After a second legal notice was posted on her door asking her to contact the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Animal Management Division, police served a warrant to remove the dogs from the residence.
Five dogs were confiscated on February 25. All the dogs had matted hair and overgrown nails and were living in unsanitary conditions. Police say bowls of food had been left for the dogs, but the dogs did not have any water.
Denney was arrested on a warrant on Wednesday. She posted a $2,000 surety or $500 cash bond and was released on Thursday.
Her attorney entered a plea of not guilty on Thursday after an initial hearing was waived.
