Alligator found in a Long Branch home

NEW JERSEY -- The search of a city home led to the discovery of an alligator, according to News 12 New Jersey.

Animal control officer Michael LoGrasso told News 12 that the 3.5-foot-long reptile was found inside a storage box.

"It's pretty scary because you don't know what's going to happen," LoGrasso said. "That thing can potentially do some damage."

The alligator is now in the care of Fish and Game experts. Owning an alligator can be illegal in New Jersey, with a fine of up to $25,000, according to News 12.

City police said the New Jersey State Police conducted the search.
