OREGON -- The owner of a pit bull that attacked a woman and her dog in a Veneta neighborhood off Eighth Street in February has entered not guilty pleas to three citations issued by the city.
Attorney David Hill entered the pleas in Veneta Municipal Court this morning on behalf of the dog’s owner, Brian Lozano.
The citations include owning a dangerous dog, an unlicensed dog and a dog at large. Lozano could be forced to relinquish the dog or move if found guilty of having a dangerous dog — a violation of a Veneta city ordinance that bans dangerous animals within city limits.
The trial is scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 21.
Sheri Alvariz and her Shiba Inu named Hachi were mauled Feb. 27 when a pit bull came charging through a backyard fence just a few houses away from where Alvariz lives.
Alvariz underwent hand surgery. Her dog’s throat was ripped open but survived after surgery and multiple stitches.
The attack was caught on tape by a neighbor’s surveillance camera.
