United Kingdom: Death isn't always what happens when livestock are attacked by dogs

UNITED KINGDOM -- Dog owners have been reminded to be extra vigilant in ensuring their pets are kept on a lead during lambing season.

The National Sheep Association has made the call at a time of year when ewes are heavily pregnant or have young lambs at foot.

Although not all sheep and lambs are injured as seen above, several
other problems can arise from sheep worrying by dogs, including stress in
pregnant ewes and separation of ewes from their lambs. Picture credit: NSA

With increasing numbers of sheep worrying incidents being reported, NSA chief executive Phil Stocker is calling for dog owners to be extra vigilant during the lambing season, and to keep their pets on a lead around livestock.
