Florida: Escambia animal cruelty cases against Ahl family delayed, averted

FLORIDA -- Two men facing animal cruelty charges in connection to several malnourished farm animals have had their respective trials delayed or circumvented altogether.

Casey Christopher Ahl (Casey Ahl), 20, and Randolph Hewell Rigby Jr. (Randall Rigby, Randy Rigby, Randolph Rigby), 45, were charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty and unlawful confinement or abandonment of an animal after deputies found more than a dozen mistreated horses, donkeys and goats on a Cantonment property.

One horse was found dead, tangled in a fence, and several other animals were visibly malnourished or emaciated.

Ahl and Rigby were scheduled for trial this week, however, Ahl entered a plea to the court Monday morning.

Judge Jennie Kinsey withheld adjudication in the case — meaning Ahl's record will not reflect a conviction — provided Ahl serves one year of probation, 50 hours of community service, cares for no animals and provides truthful testimony during Rigby's trial.

So after the 1 year of probation and community service it will be listed on Ahl's criminal record as Dismissed.

Rigby's trial has been delayed to June 1.

Initially, five people were arrested in connection with the case. George Edward Kenneth Ahl (George Ahl), 24, and Frances Rebecca Ahl (Frances Ahl), 73, also had adjudication withheld and were placed on probation.

The case against George Washington Ahl, 75, was closed without a conviction when he died in March of this year. #sorrynotsorry
