TEXAS -- A police officer was forced to shoot and kill a pit bull Thursday after being bitten by the animal, according to Santa Fe police.
Police responded to Santa Fe Storage in the 13700 Block of FM 1764 after receiving a report about dogs being kept in one of the storage units.
Upon arrival, the responding officer met with the caller who advised they could hear dogs in one of the units close to theirs. The officer approached the unit, which was left unlocked, and discovered several pit bull dogs inside, along with their owner. The woman was living in the storage unit with the dogs, police say.
Santa Fe Police, along with Galveston County Animal Control, removed an additional adult pit bull and seven pit bull puppies from the storage unit.
The dogs' owner was taken into custody for outstanding warrants, but was first transported to UTMB Medical Center for a medical condition
