Jose Vasquez, 47, entered his guilty plea in New Hanover County Superior Court to the charge of crime against nature.
The crime happened when Vasquez approached a Camp Lejeune Marine in a hotel parking lot at 5001 Market Street and asked if a small female black dog in the area belonged to him. The Marine said she was not his dog, and Vasquez took the dog into a vehicle in the parking lot.
Animal rapist: JOSE VASQUEZ |
The owner of the dog, vacationing in Wilmington with her boyfriend, approached the same Marine looking for her pet. She was told that a man had taken the dog into a vehicle in the same lot.
They approached the vehicle looking for the dog and saw Vasquez engaging in sexual activity (rape) with the animal.
Vasquez ran from the scene of the crime, but was caught by a Wilmington Police officer a short time later.
Vasquez was sentenced to 8-19 months in prison
