Savage dog attack left jogger needing surgery and 40 stitches to horrific bite wounds

UNITED KINGDOM  -- A savage dog attack left a jogger in fear for her life and needing more than 40 stitches to deep bites and puncture wounds in her leg.

Siobhan Guy needed surgery to her left knee and leg after a German Shepherd-type dog knocked her to the ground and then attacked her.

The 44-year-old spoke of her ordeal and revealed graphic images of her wounds as a police investigation to trace the owners continues.

Officers want to trace a man and a woman, fearing the dog could strike again, reports Manchester Evening News.

Siobhan was running along a rural footpath from the back of properties in Bury at around 8am on Saturday.

She slowed to a walking pace as she approached two German Shepherd-type dogs, but one ran at her without warning.

Siobhan, from Bury, who is a pastoral head of year at Little Lever School in Bolton and a member of Bury Athletic Club, said: “I was knocked to the ground and it was all so quick.

"They were both mauling me and one was biting me. I could feel it biting through my flesh.

“I knew that they were really bad bites, I just thought that I was going to die. I just feel lucky that I escaped. I did not know how or when the dogs were going to get off me. It could have been my face or my throat.”

Both dogs were off their leads.

Siobhan said she asked the man and woman who were with the dogs for help but they walked off after saying they didn’t have a mobile phone.

She managed to stagger to the nearest house to raise the alarm.

Mum-of-two Siobhan was taken to North Manchester General Hospital for surgery. She is recovering at home but can’t walk or drive. She will also be scarred.

She added: “There was blood everywhere and I was in shock. I always slow down for dogs and approached cautiously, as I always do. It just worries me that it could happen again.

"My fear is it could have been a child. Maybe this will remind some owners to keep dogs on leads, but it won’t put me off running.”

Police are appealing to trace the dogs and their owners. Warning leaflets have been posted to homes in the area.

The man is described as white, in his 30s and around 5ft 10ins. The woman is also white, in her mid-20s and around 5ft 5ins. She had long dark hair and ‘substantial facial make-up or cosmetics’.
