Seal Beach man, Robert James Linneman, accused of killing cat, booked on animal cruelty charges

CALIFORNIA -- A Seal Beach man is accused of killing a cat and throwing it at the home of a woman in Huntington Beach.

Robert James Linneman, 52, was arrested early Friday after police found the cat dead from a neck injury in front of the woman’s home near Springdale Street and Edinger Avenue, said Huntington Beach police Lt. Kent Ferrin.

Linneman had gone to the woman's home uninvited about 12:25 a.m. to discuss a business matter.

Ferrin said he didn't know details but that the woman apparently was helping him with some sort of paperwork.

She said, ‘Hey, what are you doing here?’ and told him to leave,” then closed the door, Ferrin said. “Then like seconds later, she hears this slam against the screen door, then looks down at the cat and notices the cat is lifeless.”

The woman had cared for the cat, which Ferrin said may have lived outside, for years.

“It might as well have been hers,” Ferrin said.

Linneman denied hurting the animal, but officers didn't believe him, and he was booked into Men’s Central Jail in Santa Ana on an animal cruelty charge. He remained there Saturday on $20,000 bail.

Jail records list his occupation as being in the construction industry.

  1. Robert Linnemann is a good friend of mine,on the surface he can be some what arrogant, and because of his 6ft 4in frame can at times be some what intimidating, but for those of whom have stuck it out with him by not allowing his demeanor to effect us come to realize there s more to this man than meets the eye, where most are quick to cast judgment, having no interest, time nor patience theres a small hand full of those like myself who were passionate, and strong enough to delve willingly into this mans soul on which right away I discovered an seemingly impenetrable anger(I myself knowing anger is an emotional trait that all of us humans carry within ) that if there was any chance at all of us building any type of freindship I was going to have to slowly attack that wall by chipping away digging deeper and deeper until I broke through and there sure enough unsurprisingly there was a loving, caring soul full of compassion humbled and content, yet burdened by a sadness that stems from traumatic event he suffered as a nine year old boy, one Christmas Eve while leaving their home in Encinitas Ca he and his family were on their way to their family cabin in Lake Tahoe Ca in which they suffered a head on collision upon which he survived, opening his eyes after being in a coma for 3 months and now a lifelong steel plate in his head, he learns that he had lost his mom and 2 sisters, and that he, his dad and 1 of the 3 sisters had only survived,he also shared with me while in comatose state he had remembered visions it was sort of a dreamlike spending time with his mom and 2 sisters but ironically without his dad and surviving sister, that I found very interesting, and I believe it is without question it was this event that helped shape and create the man my friend Robert Linnemann is today, this is by no means an Ill attempt way to try to get everyone to forgive my friend, no not at all, but I will tell you I know he did not kill that cat for it was already dead laying lifeless in a near by roadside curb, lettng his anger get the best of him he picked it up and went back to the womans apatment and thew it at her door, it was wrong and very bad what he did , I for one told him that was a really bad stupid thing to do and regrets it to this day and he went to jail and paid his debt to society for it, but it is also wrong to rack this man over the coals for a crime accused of he didnt commit and its sad that he didnt have the money to bail out and fight these awful accusations but instead made a deal with the DA and plead guilty and served 6 months at which he was released in 4,all said HE DID NOT KILL THAT CAT AND THAT WOMAN WAS A LIAR TO ACCUSE HIM OF THAT,was it wrong of him to make a scene in front of this womans apt. YES, was it wrong for terrorizing her YES, should he have been arrested for what he did YES, should he stand accused for killing a cat NO, should that woman be held in contempt for lying to the police YES ABSOLUTLY...this is the truth as i see it and i believe my freind who admits what he did was wrong but swears his did not kill that cat ...and i believe him....JD Hern
