Macon man, Brian Denegal, arrested and charged with animal cruelty

GEORGIA -- A Macon man was arrested and charged after officers found an abandoned puppy and a dead dog in his backyard. That's according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

Brian Denegal was charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals and one count of cruelty to animals.

That came after a Macon-Bibb Animal Control Officer told deputies she received a call about dog fighting at the home.

A report says deputies found a dead dog next to a tree in the backyard on Case Street around 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Officers also discovered a puppy abandoned without food or water.

13 WMAZ's Claire Davis knocked on the door of the home, but no one answered. Denegal was released on bond Saturday.

Bibb County deputies responded to an animal cruelty call Friday afternoon in the 3600 block of Case Street near Napier Avenue.

A responding deputy was met at the scene by a Macon-Bibb County Animal Control officer who told the deputy that someone told her dog fights were taking place at 3650 Case St.

The house was vacant because the tenants moved out, according to a sheriff's office incident report.

While inspecting the backyard, the officer found a dead dog near a tree and an abandoned puppy, the report states.

"...they believed that the puppy that was left at the house with no food or water was eating the carcass of the deceased dog," the report states.

Sheriff's officials found mail in the home of someone they believe was the previous occupant and they're trying to find him, according to the report.
