PENNSYLVANIA -- New details on a dog attack Thursday in suburban Johnstown that sent one man to the hospital and forced Officers to shoot and kill the dog.
It happened along Bedford Street in Dale Borough just outside the city.
Police say the dog left its porch and attacked a man riding past on a bicycle. The dog's owner was identified as Adam Nardecchia.
Police say his Pit bull named Baby left the porch of his Bedford Street home at least three times Thursday morning chasing and attacking a man riding his bicycle before eventually running after Police who had responded to help.
Police say that prompted them to shoot the dog in defense. The dog was killed but Police say they had no other choice.
The owner is now facing citations for not confining the dog to his yard and for harboring a dangerous dog. He is also facing citations in accordance with the dog law. Police say that dog was not licensed, tagged or vaccinated.
Because they are summary citaions he is not facing any jail time but he will be required to pay about 400 dollars in fines.
We are told the victim is out of the hospital with bite marks to his hand and thigh. Police say he is doing better but will need to follow up with doctors because that dog wasn't vaccinated.
