Bodies of 6 dogs, 2 cats dumped at Lower Paxton apartment complex

PENNSYLVANIA -- Police say eight dead animals, six dogs and two cats, were dumped near a suburban Harrisburg apartment complex.

The decomposed animals, which include one puppy, were found in a trash bag near the Pennswoods Apartments, at 4913 Wynnewood Road, in Lower Paxton Township, police told ABC27 News.

Investigators don’t yet know how long the animals had been dead, but they say the carcasses were dumped near the apartment complex overnight.

Maintenance workers made the discovery Friday morning.

Police are investigating the incident as a case of animal cruelty.

“It was bad,” Pennswood resident Sammie Lane said. “Their throats were torn out, legs ripped halfway off, it was horrible. I’m a dog owner, so I don’t like it.”

“Anybody that hurts pets like this shouldn’t have pets,” Ralph Johnson said. “Pets are just like our family member. You love them, treat them just like you would anybody else.”

The decomposed remains have been sent to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area.

“In my thought process, this is either someone that is very unwell or someone that was very, very desperate, and your heart just breaks,” executive director Amy Kaunas said.
