The owner had left the dog inside the car with the windows lowered only about an inch for almost 30 minutes, in the Island Crossing shopping center parking lot around 12:30 p.m. Friday, Capt. Bob Bromage said.
It was the second time in a week a pet owner was cited with animal cruelty on the island for leaving a dog in a locked car.
The outside temperature was nearly 80 degrees Friday when the dog was taken out of the car. It was not injured, Bromage said.
On Monday, a Hilton Head Island woman was cited for animal cruelty after her dog was found locked in her car for nearly four hours. The woman had fallen while intoxicated outside the Circle Center. She was knocked unconscious from the fall and taken to the hospital.
