Donations needed to help sweet little dog recover after pit bull mauling

LOUISIANA -- The little dog who was recently rescued from a pit bull attack by a Shreveport police officer is now considered abandoned.

Last month, "Buddy" was mauled by a pit bull and left to die but thanks to a good Samaritan, who just happens to be a cop, the dog was rescued.

Three officers responded to the scene and sprung into action after the caller led them to a little dog covered in blood, cowering under her carport.

There were bites and puncture wounds all over the malti-poo's small body.

Sergeant Saletha Clanton took Buddy to a veterinarian where he received extensive treatment. Since the incident, the responding officers including Sgt. Clanton have chipped in as much as they can afford so that Buddy can make a full recovery.

Along with multiple bite wounds, his hip was broken and his palate was crushed. The vet bills are in the thousands of dollars.

Sgt. Clanton's husband Bob clanton says the owners are unable to pay the expenses so they're abandoning him.

While Buddy is getting better and is finally able to run around and play, he isn't able to put any weight on his injured leg.

Bob Clanton says Buddy is in desperate need of hip surgery before he's eligible for adoption.

Bob Clanton has started a GoFundMe page for Buddy to help fund his surgery so he can be adopted.
