Jena Wright has been found guilty of child endangerment resulting in serious injury, neglect of a dependent person, assault not causing bodily injury, and interference with official acts causing bodily injury.
Wright is scheduled to be sentenced July 13th and could face up to 20 years in prison.
Police say Wright’s dog Brutis, attacked and killed four-year-old Jordyn Arndt while Wright was babysitting her in April of 2013. Arndt died from her injuries the day after the attack.
Wright’s defense attorney said this was a hard case to be a part of .
“This was an incredibly difficult case about a little girl who lost her life at four years of age, very difficult for my client because she loved that child, and although I do not agree with the results there are no winners in this case, there never would be,” says defense attorney T.J. Hier.
Jasper County prosecuting attorney Kelly Bennet said he’s happy with the outcome but agrees it was a very hard case for him to work on.
“It has been an extremely emotional trial for me personally and I just want to thank the jury for all their hard work they had to sit through some pretty emotional, graphic and heart wrenching testimony.”
The prosecution called witnesses to testify for three days, while the defense spent just one day calling people to the stand.
The jury was handed the case Wednesday afternoon and deliberated for several hours before going home for the day.
Jurors resumed deliberating Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. and reached a verdict shortly after 11:00 a.m.
