Intruder beheads blind, deaf family dog in Kings Mountain

NORTH CAROLINA -- Two parents and three children are trying to make sense of a heinous crime in Gaston County.

The family found their dog's body, headless, in the backyard on Thursday night.

Libby's owners say someone hopped a fence at the house in the 100 block of South Gaston Street in Kings Mountain.

An ax, shovel and propane tank were taken from an outbuilding. The intruders decapitated Libby before leaving, and took her head with them.

The blind and deaf beagle was one of the family's three rescue dogs. She's been a part of the family for six years.

The mom was home at the time with a broken leg, but tells NBC Charlotte she didn't hear any disturbance.

Police haven't released a suspect description but say they do need the public's help to catch the person responsible for this.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-734-4444.
