Jackson County grand jury indicts man and woman for starving pit bulldog

GEORGIA -- A Jackson County grand jury indicted a Danielsville man and woman on aggravated animal cruelty charges alleging they starved a pit bull to death.

The nine-count indictment was returned Monday against Roy Looney Jr., 38, and Crystal Lynn Love, 36, who were living in Nicholson at the time of the dog’s death, but have since moved to Madison County, authorities said.

The indictment charges that on March 3, the dog was found dead at their home on Quail Ridge Drive. The dog only weighed 36 pounds and was determined to have died by starvation, according to the indictment.

Other charges accuse them of mistreating other dogs by not providing adequate food.

The case was investigated by Jackson County Animal Control and the sheriff’s office. Animal Control Officer Brad Richards said he received assistance from Madison County Animal Control Officer Jack Huff after Love and Looney moved to Danielsville.

None of the dogs went to a veterinarian for rabies shots, Richards said.

“I impounded all of the dogs and we’re getting them good homes,” he said.
