Texas: Officers Forced to Shoot Dog While Responding to Dog Attack

TEXAS -- A Corpus Christi police officer had to fire four shots Monday morning to stop an aggressive dog from attacking him in the 3000 block of Greenwood, according to police.

It was around 8:30 a.m. when a man was walking in that area and was approached by the neighborhood dogs. The man said he tried to shoo them away, but one dog attacked and latched onto his leg.

The man was able to break free and said the dog backed off. He called for medical attention for an injury the dog caused to his right leg.

When police arrived, neighborhood dogs were still around. The dog that the victim said attacked him began approaching a police officer. The victim said the officer fired one shot as the dog began to rush toward him, but the animal kept coming. The officer fired three more rounds, killing the dog.

The victim told 3News that he's had run-ins with the dogs before.

Animal Control was called out to the scene to retrieve the dog's body. Authorities are still investigating the incident and are looking for the dog's owners.
