Woman says she and and her dog were attacked by a neighborhood pit bull

TEXAS -- Georgianna Duarte and her dog Osito take a walk down their quiet street every night.

Duarte says her 15-year-old German Shepard was attacked by a neighborhood dog, "He went right for the throat and he would not let up..even with all the screaming and all the pushing and kicking and arms flying, this dog did not let up"

Duarte says the dog came out of no where, as she showed CHANNEL 5 NEWS the animal she says is responsible.

Some workers on a nearby roof witnessed the attack, "They were trying to get down off the roof and were trying to hurry hurry and it happened right here", Duarte says.

Osito's vet said the wounds were from a fight with another dog. Duarte says dog attacks are a problem throughout the Valley, she says, "The problem is not going to go away. And from one end to the Valley to the other, loose dogs are abused, they're neglected, they're loose, they bite children, they create traffic accidents, they lose their life in the street. And it's not the dogs fault...it's the owner."

CHANNEL 5 NEWS checked with the Laguna Vista Police Department, they told us they've only had two calls for stray dogs into their department in the past five months.

The pit bull on the right is the dog which attacked her dog.

Police Chief Tony David said they are taking this case seriously, "We took the initial report and this case is now under investigation that a dog was attacked by another animal."

Duarte says she doesn't want dog that attacked to be put down. She says, "I think the dog needs to be taken away from the owner and the owner needs to be punished."

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the other dog's owner, but no one was home at the time.

In light of this comment, indicating that Duarte thinks it's just fine if this pit bull goes on attacking -- just not if it attacks her or her own dog again -- the correct thing would be to leave this gripper exactly where it is. Let Duarte live with her fear until she decides no one should be subjected to it and that the pit bull should be destroyed.
