Court documents show Zachary Wamre, of Clear Lake, has been charged with failure to dispose of a dead animal.
According to the police report, officers responded to East Park in Mason City on April 5th, where they found Wamre with his former girlfriend’s dead dog. The report states he told officers the dog was hit by a car, however the report also says that Wamre was lying to officers, therefore he’s also being charged with interference with official acts.
Heather Lemke and her family, the dog’s owners, want answers. “My husband and I felt really strongly in our gut that Gizmo was not hit by a car, and we needed to convince Heather, so that’s why we went with the x-rays,” Jeannie Lemke, Heather’s mother, said.
According to Jeannie, the vet said the dog had no broken bones making him think the dog was not hit by a car, but he could not determine the cause of death.
Wamre’s attorney issued this statement, “The animal at issue was not alive when it was found by Mr. Wamre. Mr. Wamre admits to improperly disposing of the animal. However, he categorically denies any responsibility for the dog’s death or any alleged abuse.”
