GEORGIA -- A Baldwin County Animal Control Officer was arrested.
Clifford Pickman is accused of not taking care of his own dogs. The 42-year-old is charged with animal cruelty.
The incident stems from neighbors complaining about the smell of dead animals from Pickman's Laurel Branch Road home.
He told investigators he moved a couple of months ago and didn't know any animals were there.
"We went out to the scene, dogs were emaciated, very bad condition like they hadn't had anything to eat," said Wilkinson County Sheriff Richard Chatman. "There was a carcass found at the edge of the wood line there. It was a bad scene in terms of the treatment of the dogs. No animal should be left in that condition."
Chatman says Pickman is no longer a Baldwin County Animal Control Officer. An internal investigation is underway on the animal cruelty accusations.
