SOUTH CAROLINA -- A 4-year-old Bay area boy is healing from a severe dog bite to his face and his family is asking for help.
The pictures of Hunter’s scars are just heart wrenching for his parents to look at.
“It’s really sad to see that he’s not the old Hunter. It’s really hard to see my baby’s face looking like that,” said Hunter’s mother, Marion Edwards.
Edwards said Hunter was attacked last Monday by a family dog. It’s a dog they say never showed signs of aggression.
“The dog never showed any signs of aggression before this,” Edwards said. “He was hyperactive but he had never snapped or tried to bite. We just want people to be careful because we never would’ve known that this, never dreamed this would happen to our son.”
She said it all started when her son was out in their yard.
“My husband went to the shed and my son followed him to the shed,” she said. “And the dog was chained up near where the shed is and when the dog jumped on him I just started screaming.”
Hunter’s dad Andrew said he pried the dog off of his son but the damage was already done to his head and his eye.
“He had three stitches on his neck where the dog went for his throat,” Andrew said. “If I wouldn’t have heard her initial scream or been just a little bit further away I don’t know if he would still be here.”
After a few days in the hospital, the four year old is playing with toys and in good spirits. But his father, who is a veteran and suffering from PTSD, worries about him emotionally.
“I know what he’s feeling so it hurts so bad cause I deal with it every day,” Andrew said.
Documents show the dog was euthanized. And as the family tries to cope with this attack they’re also trying to cope with the mountain of medical bills. They don’t have insurance and are just hoping they’ll get some help for their little boy.
A Gofundme account has been set up to help with expenses.
