Mother, daughter charged with aggravated animal cruelty after they stabbed family cat to death

ILLINOIS -- Kelly Palermo, 50, and her 21-year-old daughter Samantha have each been charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty, a felony, after allegedly stabbing the family cat to death.

Judge Richard Russo set bond for both women $125,000 with 10% to apply for each.

According to a press release, it is alleged that Kelly became angry with the family cat. She allegedly picked it up and held it while Samantha stabbed it several times.

At one point during the alleged attack, it is believed that Kelly’s 14-year-old son got the cat away from the women and called 911.

Kelly eventually took the cat back from her son and held it down while Samantha stabbed the cat several more times, ultimately killing it.

Samantha next court appearance is scheduled for July 7, and Kelly next court appearance is scheduled for July 6. Should either of the women post bond, they are not allowed to possess any animals.
