Boise Police spokesperson Lynn Hightower says they received a report of a dog attack at Veterans Memorial Park at about 5:40 p.m. When an officer arrived, no one involved was on scene, but he was able to talk to a witness who gave a description the dog and its owner.
The officer checked local hospitals and found two young children, both under the age of six, receiving medical attention for a dog bites. Hightower says each child was bitten at least once in the head or face.
The boys' mom, Jessica Hansen, tells KTVB that they were near the river and noticed a pit bull running around off-leash. She says the dog attacked the boys unprovoked.
"He was biting his face and I got the dog away ... then he tackled my youngest son to the ground and bit him in the face," she said.
Hansen says the dog's owner apologized then left in his car without the dog.
The boys both were treated and released from the hospital.
Police say they've handed off the investigation to animal control officers, who are responsible for enforcing animal related laws.
