Wesley Darrell Bragg arrested after beating his dog with a claw hammer

WEST VIRGINIA -- An animal cruelty complaint leads police to a home on Main Street in Hinton, Summers County.

Police Chief Derek Snavely said Wesley Darrell Bragg, 35, was hitting his dog with a claw hammer.

The call came into the police department around 3:45 Friday afternoon.

Chief Snavely said Bragg was found holding the hammer and was noticeably intoxicated.    The dog was found to be still breathing but its head was bludgeoned.   The dog had marks on its head that were obviously from the claw end of a hammer.

Animal control was immediately contacted so the dog could be transported to a veterinarian and be euthanized.

Bragg was arrested and has been charged with felony Cruelty to Animals and two counts of obstructing an officer.

Bragg is in the Southern Regional Jail.
