NEW YORK -- A Westbury man has been arrested for allegedly beating his dog to death three months ago, Nassau County prosecutors and SPCA investigators said.
Bing Jie Yang was arraigned Wednesday at Nassau County court on a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.
“This defendant allegedly beat his small Pomeranian so mercilessly that he broke the small dog’s ribs, fractured his liver and ultimately killed him,” Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said.
Authorities said the 23-year-old man hit the two-year-old dog, Dan Dan, then took the dog to a local veterinarian hospital, where the dog was thought to be dead upon arrival on April 7.
When efforts to revive the dog were unsuccessful, hospital staff alerted the Nassau County SPCA for investigation into possible animal cruelty.
Investigators determined that Dan Dan had suffered blunt force trauma about his body and suffered from fractured ribs, a fractured liver and internal bleeding.
Judge Patricia Harrington released Yang without bail and ordered him to surrender his Chinese passport. Yang is due back in court on July 29. He faces up to two years in jail, if convicted.

Please sign the petition and urge the Nassau County authorities to pursue full prosecution against this inconsiderate man and show everyone that such types of actions towards a defenseless animal are not acceptable. Help make sure this man will pay in full for all that he did to that innocent little creature.
