"It's always outside. In the rain, in everything," Jessica Bryant said. "It'll break its chain, barking at us to try to get to us."
A baby girl was severely injured Monday night after she was attacked by a dog in Chardon. Chardon Police said the baby was on the floor, with her mom in the room, when she was caught in the middle of two pit bulls fighting.
The attack happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Court St.
"I could hear her screaming, 'My baby, call 911!' " said Kimberly Willman, who ran across the street to help. She said she held the baby and nursed her wounds until paramedics arrived.
The child suffered multiple bite marks to her head and face and was transported to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, where she was then flown to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital - University Hospitals for treatment. Chardon Police said she is listed in serious condition.
Neighbor Jessica Bryant says this isn't the first time they've had problems with this dog |
Matt Granito, the Geauga County Dog Warden, said both dogs involved in the incident are in their custody. They are a pit bull breed.
He also said his office received a complaint last month about an "aggressive" dog at the property where the baby was attacked. It is unclear whether the dog that received a complaint was the one who attacked the baby. Granito said the owner received a warning letter since the dog was chained up when officers arrived.
The Chardon Police Department and Geauga County Sheriff’s Department are investigating. No charges have been filed yet. Police said Children and Family Services are involved in the case.
This attack happened just one day after a pit bull mauled and killed a 71-year-old woman in Shaker Heights.
