GEORGIA -- Deputies rescued nearly 30 dogs from a home in Toccoa after reports of animals being malnourished, the Stephens County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.
Randy Shirley of the sheriff's office said an anonymous caller alerted deputies Tuesday afternoon that several dogs were running about a home on Holly Springs Road in Toccoa, and they looked malnourished.
Once on scene, investigators and animal control officers spotted one dead animal inside the home and secured a search warrant, Shirley said.
WYFF News 4 was there when 10 to 12 puppies were carried out of the home along with nearly 20 adult dogs.
Shirley said the puppies and dogs have been taken to the animal shelter in Toccoa.
The name of the woman who lives in the home has not yet been released, but Shirley said she has a pending charge of animal cruelty and could face felony charges.
