OHIO -- A dog spotted on the roof of a Youngstown home on Sunday brought a response from Youngstown Police and Animal Charity.
When an officer arrived at the home on Orrin Ave, he noticed a malnourished dog standing on the roof. The officer said he could see the dog's rib cage, spine and hip bone.
Police were able to get the dog down from the roof.
According to the report, police believe the dog broke through the screen of the second floor window and climbed onto the roof.
Further inspections indicated that the dog had not been fed in a long time and was recently pregnant.
Officers found seven puppies in the basement of the home.
The owner of the dog was later identified as Deshaun Vaughn, 36, of Youngstown.
Vaughn told police he received the dog from a friend a few months ago and was helping take care of it.
Vaughn was cited for animal cruelty and arraigned on Monday.
After his arraignment, Vaughn signed over the custody of the animals to Animal Charity.
Two of the puppies died.
The surving puppies are not adoptable yet. Animal Charity wants to make sure the dogs are healthy before they are able to leave.
