Police: Oklahoma man charged in animal abuse case

OKLAHOMA -- An Oklahoma man has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities say he repeatedly threw his cat like a bowling ball.

Witnesses called police on June 9 and reported the suspect threw the cat at least 10 times across a concrete balcony using a bowling motion.

The Edmond Police Department issued an arrest warrant for the suspect on Tuesday, one day after he was charged. The Edmond man told officers he threw the 2-year-old cat named Luna because the animal was antisocial and bit him. He said he received the cat at a free adoption event in February.

Animal Services Supervisor Nicki Smith says Luna suffered internal injuries and had several claws ripped out. She says the cat is expected to recover and will be adopted out.
