GEORGIA -- A 54-year-old Hiram woman is now facing three counts of animal cruelty in
Paulding County. This after police said she was spotted throwing kittens from
her SUV on Wednesday.
Dallas Police Officers first caught up with Janeth
Maclean around 4 p.m. on Bill Curuth Road after a woman followed her while
calling 9-1-1 to report what she thought were animals being tossed out of the
passenger window of Maclean's Nissan Rogue.
The woman, Amanda Chadwell, told
investigators she saw Maclean throw three animals from the car during the time
they left the parking lot at Kroger in Dallas to the time officers pulled the
pair over.
When investigators asked Maclean about the kittens she denied
throwing them from her car and told officers she would never do such a thing,
that she had cats at home. However, Chadwell later confirmed to officers she did
in fact see the woman toss animals from the window.
When officers
backtracked the women's route they discovered one deceased kitten in the middle
of the road at Georgia Highway 6 and Thomas B Murphy Drive. They found another
one alive just down the road near Old Harris Road. The officers rescued the
kitten and put it in the patrol car. They were not able to find the third
kitten.
Investigators spoke with a neighbor of Maclean's, and she claimed
to have spoken with the woman and her husband the night before the incident. She
said “Mr. Maclean said he wanted to take the cats and Mrs. Maclean said she did
not want them because she did not like cats.”
Janeth Maclean was taken
into custody on three counts of animal cruelty. A court date is pending.
