TEXAS -- A Georgetown woman is charged with animal cruelty after nearly running her dog to death.
According to an affidavit, Esmeralda Escobar allegedly ran one of her dogs, a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd named Honey, to death in the heat of the day back in June, and is accused of trying to do the same to another of her dogs, a 10-year-old Border Collie named Oliver.
Police arrived at Escobar's home to find Oliver whimpering in pain, unable to move.
When asked by the officer if she planned on getting the dog treatment, Escobar said she did not.
When the officer asked why she would take Oliver running in the heat of the day when the same practice killed Honey last month, Escobar replied that she did not want to leave Oliver at home.
The officer advised Escobar to take the dog to Emergency Pet Care of Round Rock, where veterinarians say Escobar told them to euthanize Oliver since she could not afford to have him treated. When the officer told the doctor that he would take the dog, Escobar then decided to have Oliver treated.
