Florida pair leave dogs in the car while they visit the mall

FLORIDA -- Two Florida women were arrested after police said they left three dogs in the car to go inside a Volusia County mall.

Tiffany Hon and Jaclyn Campbell were arrested after police said the two left three dogs in the car while they went inside the Volusia Mall, WKMG reported. The temperature of the vehicle was 105 degrees when police arrived.

According to the report, Hon and Campbell left three small dogs in an SUV while they went into the mall. Officers arrived and quickly opened the car and let the dogs out, finding the women 30 minutes later and arresting them.

They said they just went in for a few minutes to use the restroom and didn’t realize it was against the law to leave animals in a vehicle, police said.

Hon told the officers she was in the police academy in Iowa, "but didn't know the laws in Florida".

Um, hello... dogs die in hot cars in Iowa too. It's not just a "Florida" thing.

"I mean, do you go to the bathroom and it takes 40 minutes to use the bathroom?" asked Jimmie Flynt, spokesperson for Daytona Beach police.

This comes a day after a puppy was rescued by police from a car in Massachusetts after being left there for 10 hours and a week after a dog was accused of running a car into a building by its owner, even though the owner was heavily intoxicated.

Hon and Campbell face three counts of animal cruelty and the dogs were taken to the Halifax Humane Society.
