Georgia: Stephen Crooms facing animal cruelty charges in Burke Co., now facing charges in another county

GEORGIA -- A Burke County man already facing charges for allegedly starving six dogs to death is now facing charges in McIntosh County.

Stephen Crooms, 27, turned himself in at the Burke County Jail Thursday morning after McIntosh County authorities issued three warrants for his arrest. The Burke County Sheriff's Office says he was extradited on charges including theft by deception, deposit account fraud, and false statements and writings/concealment of facts.

Investigators say the charges are in connection to a boat and trailer he bought from a person at the Dallas Bluff Marina in Townsend, Ga. in June. Several days after the sale his check was returned.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office says Crooms voluntarily brought the boat to the sheriff's office, and it will be picked up by McIntosh authorities.

In March of 2015, Crooms entered a not guily plea on seven counts of animal cruelty charges in Burke County. He is accused of starving 10 dogs, six were found dead and four were found in serious condition.
