TEXAS -- Terry Gonzalez, arrested and charged Monday in a Bell County animal cruelty case, called 911 at about 1:25 a.m. Sunday and said there were several people outside shooting at his house, Lt. T.J. Cruz, Bell County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, said Tuesday.
Gonzalez lives in the 2100 block of State Highway 317 near Moody. When deputies arrived, along with officers from the Temple Police Department, a man and woman were running down the driveway toward SH 317. The two were stopped and handcuffed while the inside of the house and all other buildings on the property were checked to see if anyone else was there. No one was found, Cruz said.
Investigators examined the inside of the house and found that all of the bullet holes riddling the house were fired from the inside, not the outside, Cruz said.
During that investigation a large brown dog was found dead in the living room with a bullet hole in its side. Gonzalez later admitted to shooting the dog, Cruz said.
On Tuesday, Gonzalez remained in the Bell County Jail with bail set at $25,000. He is charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals by torture, a state jail felony, according to jail records.
Several guns were found in the house as well as containers with a green, leafy substance that looked like marijuana.
The investigation into the marijuana was turned over to the Bell County Organized Crime Unit.
No charges were filed against the woman as of press time Tuesday. She was released from jail custody late Monday afternoon, Cruz said.
