Pit bull bites victim and police officer who responded

PENNSYLVANIA -- Two Lancaster County residents have been charged following an incident involving a dog bite and a handgun on Aug. 13.

According to Manheim Township police reports, a Lancaster Township woman was walking down the sidewalk on the first block of Yardley Green in Manheim Township around 8:10 p.m. when a pit bull bit her leg. The woman required medical treatment, police said.

The owner of the dog Marianne E. Callaway, 59, told police that following the incident, the bite victim's husband, Marc A. Chappelle, 49, of Lancaster Township, showed up at Callaway's house and pointed a gun at her.

The pit bull bit a Manheim Township police officer's hand when he went to Callaway's house to investigate the incident, also requiring medical treatment.

Callaway was changed with harboring a dangerous dog and Chappelle was charged with simple assault following the incident.
