ILLINOIS -- The man who abandoned his home in the Belmont Central neighborhood where 109 cats were found last week has been charged with animal cruelty.
Robert Sawicki was charged with one count of animal cruelty and one count of violating animal owner duties.
The home on the 6200 block of west Roscoe Street was in foreclosure and had been improperly boarded up.
More than 100 cats were still living there.
Animal control workers and a rescue organization rescued the cats and gave them medical attention.
