Woman attacked by her beloved pit bull recovering in hospital

Although this article doesn't say her dog was a pit bull, WIBW's article lists it as a pit bull. A commenter stated that a newspaper article said it was a pit bull that they'd owned for 8 years and considered a member of the family.

KANSAS -- A day by the family pool ended in terror for Shelly LeRoy.

"If he's not coming, I have to get somebody to come, so I just keep yelling he's going to kill me," LeRoy said.

Those words come after her dog attacked her while she was relaxing in her backyard.
"He decided at that point to put his feet in the edge of the pool and he just nipped the side of my thigh, and that's not like him," she said.

She said she had never seen the family's dog, Sammie, act that way before.

"To me if felt like he was just demon possessed, it was like his eyes were big dark pupils," LeRoy said.

She says once he started attacking her, he didn't stop.

"He had this hand in his mouth and and I stuck this one in and pried his jaw open," LeRoy said.
LeRoy says she didn't try to fight back, or it could have been worse.

"My husband said that this young girl came and knocked on the door real hard, and he could tell it was a something's wrong," she said.

LeRoy says her husband was home, but didn't hear what was going on.

"When he got to my arm, that's when it was the worst," she said.

But thankfully, someone, who they are calling their angel,  did.

"This girl said,  'Your wife's in the backyard and your dog is attacking her,"' LeRoy said.

LeRoy was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital and later flown to Saint Francis in Wichita. She's recovering.

"They were just kind of mutilated, I could see two bones," she said of the injury to her arm.

Rachel LeRoy is her daughter and says doctors say her mom could have bled out from several severed arteries, if it weren't for that girl, their angel, and her knock on the door.

"She's my angel," LeRoy said.

LeRoy says the family chose to put the dog down after the accident.

"I don't know who you are, but if it weren't for you, I'd be dead," she said about the girl who alerted her husband of the attack.

LeRoy is expected to be in the hospital for another month, and get five or six more surgeries.

Rachel LeRoy posted about the accident on social media and ended up getting in contact with the girl who saved her mom. The family thanked her.
