Sarasota man, Steven Thompson, charged with cruelty to animals for beating dog

FLORIDA -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a 26-year-old man after he beat his nine-month-old puppy for chewing up a decorative pillow.
 
According to a release from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office: On Tuesday morning, 26-year-old Steven Thompson took the 14 pound terrier mix, Sugar, to an emergency clinic in Sarasota where veterinary staff determined the dog was in critical respiratory distress and suffering from internal injuries.

  

When questioned, Thompson admitted to throwing the dog against the floor and striking her several times with a closed fist after Sugar chewed up a pillow that belonged to his girlfriend.

Sugar remains in the care of veterinary staff while she continues to receive medical treatment.

Thompson, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with Cruelty to Animals with Injury. He was released on $1,500 bond.

  1. Sign the petition and demand justice for Sugar! Her 14-pound body was covered in bruises after being slammed to the floor and struck by Thomson's fists! This man deserves a harsh penalty and it is up to us to make sure he gets it!
