CALIFORNIA -- A woman being investigated for having more than 100 starved animals on a Moss Landing property blames the neglect on a batch of bad hay.
The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports officers with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Monterey County responded Monday to a report from an anonymous caller saying there were "dead and dying animals" on the property.
Authorities arrived to find several animals wasting away and being deprived of food and water.
A total of 34 calves, four cows, 35 goats, three sheep, three hens, two ducks, five piglets, 15 dogs and four kittens were rescued from the property.
The owner hasn't been arrested, but several charges have been requested against her.
The animals will be up for adoption once they are healthy.
