Indianapolis man, Jeremiah Long, 23, sentenced for torturing and killing neighbor's cat with blow darts

INDIANA -- An Indianapolis man who pleaded guilty to shooting a cat with blow darts was sentenced Thursday.

Jeremiah Long, 23, was arrested on animal cruelty charges last year after admitting to fatally shooting his neighbor’s cat “Tippy” with four-inch long blow darts [supposedly] because it was fighting with his cat.

RIP Tippy

Long fired the darts into his neighbor Amy Cohron's kitty, Tippy, on Tuesday night, leaving the dying animal to limp back home with the projectiles sticking out all over his body.

Amy Cohron rushed the gravely wounded animal to a local veterinarian, where vets had no choice but to put him to sleep later that night.

"Grotesque. My poor little baby had to go through this," Cohron told the station.

"I asked the vet if I could say goodbye to him and hold on to his paw. They put him to sleep and he saw me." said Cohran, choking back tears. "I told him that I was prosecuting the man that did this to him, and he was going to cat heaven now, and he was not going to feel any more pain."

X-rays show 10 blow darts hit Tippy, each dart about four inches long. The darts were in the cat’s face, back, legs, and even in his rectum.

This tells me he approached the cat and kept doing it after the cat was mortally injured. The cat wouldn't have just stood there and let him do that to him.

This guy has mental issues and should have been ordered to get psychological counseling.

She told police that Long, a neighbor of hers on Kansas St., was the only person she knew who owned a blow gun.

When questioned, the baby-faced goon immediately fessed up, telling police, "Yes, I shot the cat because it was fighting with my cat,'" police said, according to FOX 59.

He then said that he didn't tell police afterward because he "didn't think it was important."

"He needs to be locked away," Cohen said.

"No slap on the wrist and get out so he can do something else. He needs to go down. They need to take this more seriously."

Court records show Cohen didn't get what she wanted. Instead, he was sentenced to 363 days on home detention through community corrections. He also must pay $422 in restitution.
