TENNESSEE -- A man who kicked a dog repeatedly while police looked on was arrested for animal cruelty and disorderly conduct on Monday, according to a police report.
Around 2:30 p.m. on Labor Day, an officer with the Kingsport Police Department was parked across the street from Glen Bruce Park. The reporting officer said a few people were in and on the gazebo located at the park.
A white male, later identified as Jackie Myers, homeless, Kingsport, had a small black and white dog with him. The dog was on a leash and Myers was allowing the dog to run around on the grass.
Then Myers allegedly pulled back his right leg and kicked the dog, causing it to come off the ground.
"I watched in disbelief and then he kicked the dog two more times," the reporting officer stated.
The officer approached Myers and asked why he had kicked the dog. Myers reportedly became aggressive and called the officer a g-----m liar. The officer asked for Myers' identification and to come down off the gazebo. Myers continued to curse and argue and was extremely aggressive in his stance, according to a police report.
Myers was asked to sit on the bottom step of the gazebo and another officer arrived to assist on the call. A background check revealed Myers was wanted in Georgia and New Mexico but no extradition was in place.
A female with him said he suffered from severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and was "just having a bad day".
Myers was arrested for cruelty to animals and disorderly conduct. He was transported to the Kingsport City Jail.
