Pit bull declared dangerous after attacking and killing little Pomeranian

CANADA -- The owners of a pit bull that attacked a tiny Pomeranian in Pitt Meadows last week are cooperating with the City of Pitt Meadows and have offered to pay for the veterinarian bills.
 

Julie Newlove's dog Lilly was bitten sometime on Friday.
 

"My poor lil puppy Lilly was attacked by another dog tonight and didn't make it. I'm devastated. Hoping some integrity shines through now," she said on Facebook.

 

Lilly's owners referred to the attacking dog as a pit bull in other media.

Pitt Meadows chief administrative officer Kim Grout said bylaws staff were notified of the attack the same day and that the owners of the pit bull were in the process of moving.
 

"They were relocating and were en route when staff contacted them," said Grout.

 

Once the owner settles in, he or she will contact Pitt Meadows, who then will inform the dog owner's new city of residence of what happened.
 

"Just to let them know that there had been an incident with a dog."
 

Grout couldn't confirm the breed of the attacking dog.
 

"The dog was unknown to us."
 

Pitt Meadows has declared the animal to be a dangerous dog, even though it is now outside the city's boundaries.

 

The Aug. 7 attack in Pitt Meadows follows one in Maple Ridge on July 24 when 15-year-old Sarah Metzner was attacked and had her hand bitten while delivering newspapers.

In that incident, a two-year-old pit bull had crashed through the screen door window in a house on 117th Avenue to get at the girl.

 

A year earlier, in July 2014, a little Yorkshire terrier was killed by a pit bull cross dog in Osprey Village.
 

Greg Wyatt watched in horror as the pit bull cross came out of nowhere, grabbed his Yorkshire terrier behind the head and started shaking it.

RIP little Tucker

Wyatt emptied almost an entire can of dog spray at the attacker, and finally punched the dog but he couldn’t save smaller dog.
