The Chihuahua pup was discovered on the brink of death by the Scottish SSPCA inside a box dumped on the side of a road in Falkirk on Friday.
The animal was found to be extremely weak and couldn’t lift its head.
The pooch, which has since been named Minnie, is now being nurtured back to health at the charity’s rehoming center in Lanarkshire.
“Minnie was taken to the vets and it is a miracle that she is still alive. They practically brought her back to life and she was showing signs of improvement after only a few days. She is still under veterinary supervision and is doing really well.
“We cannot understand why someone would abandon this young puppy in such a horrific way and we will look after her until we find her the loving home she deserves.
“Anyone with any information is being urged to contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
