MICHIGAN -- An Oceola Township couple entered a plea Friday in Livingston County Circuit Court to a charge of animal cruelty.
Victoria Lynn Ciminelli, 21, and boyfriend Patric Phillip Poirrier, 40, were charged with felony animal cruelty to four to 10 animals, but they each pleaded guilty to attempted animal cruelty of four to 10 animals, which is a one-year misdemeanor.
Under the terms of the plea deal, Ciminelli and Poirrier are expected to receive a two-year non-reporting (aka unsupervised) probation term that will include conditions ordering them to not possess or own animals and to submit to random inspections by police or animal control officers to ensure they are compliant with probation requirements.
The plea deal also notes that both Ciminelli and Poirrier cannot ask for early release from their probation term.
Authorities alleged Ciminelli and Poirrier had eight cats living in unsanitary conditions and that the cats became ill due to lack of proper medical attention. The cats suffered from worms and at least one had a liver condition, authorities said.
The couple faces sentencing Oct. 29 in Howell.
